Water Efficiency changes to the City of Vancouver Building By-law, effective 01 January 2019
City of Vancouver Water Design Branch announcement: The bylaw amendments pertaining to geoexchange systems support the City of Vancouver’s objective for increased water efficiency. Through more efficient use of the current drinking water supply, the City aspires to offset demand from population and economic growth and avoid the financial, environmental and social costs associated with expanding infrastructure.

3) Methanol shall not be used for geoexchange (geothermal) applications.
4) An open loop geoexchange (geothermal) system serving a building containing no more than four dwelling units and no other major occupancies, or a laneway house, shall not be installed.
5) An open loop geoexchange (geothermal) system shall not discharge into the sewer.
