GeoExchange BC
Water Efficiency changes to the City of Vancouver Building By-law, effective 01 January 2018
City of Vancouver Water Design Branch announcement: The bylaw amendments pertaining to geoexchange systems support the City of Vancouver’s objective for increased water efficiency. Through more efficient use of the current drinking water supply, the City aspires to offset demand from population and economic growth and avoid the financial, environmental and social costs associated with expanding infrastructure.
In the bylaw updates: (#11776 ref. 10.3.1.5 Geoexchange Systems)
1) Make-up water for a closed loop geoexchange (geothermal) ground heat exchanger must be provided by a feeder tank isolated from the domestic water supply.
2) The use of a direct connection to the domestic water supply as a source of make-up water for a closed loop geoexchange (geothermal) ground heat exchanger is prohibited.
