The Certified Heating Technician (CHT) and the Certified Geothermal Technician (CGT) are 2 year apprenticeship training programs administered through the Residential Construction Industry Training Organization (RCITO) and by the Industry Training Authority (ITA) for individuals interested in comprehensive trades training to design, install, commission and service forced air, hydronic and geothermal heating systems. Upon completion of the program, an individual receives a Certificate of Qualification from ITA.
Below is information on the program structure, how to enrol and upcoming courses offered.
Program Overview
Please review the following documents for complete details of the CHT training program profiles.
For Apprentices
Apprentices who intend to take the technical training must first register as an apprentice with ITA. Your employer is to be your sponsor. In the event you do not have an employer to sponsor you, TECA and/or RCITO can be your sponsor for the technical training.
For Challengers
For those with 10 or more years experience in the industry, a transition period is available to earn your Certificate of Qualification without additional school provided you meet an established criteria. Please see the Program Profiles above for more information.
